Your resting temperature (Basal Body Temperature (BBT)) is affected by the hormones present in your body. As your hormones change throughout your menstrual cycle, so does your temperature.
After ovulation, the hormone progesterone is produced. Progesterone has a warming influence on body temperature meaning that the body will heat up (slightly). By tracking your BBT daily, you can see this temperature change and use it as a fertility indicator to help confirm whether ovulation has happened each cycle.
