LH is responsible for triggering the release of a mature egg from the dominant ovarian follicle during the menstrual cycle. A surge in LH levels typically occurs 24-36 hours before ovulation, signalling the final maturation of the egg and its subsequent release.
Monitoring the LH surge can help women pinpoint their most fertile days, optimizing their chances of conception. However, it's important to note that a positive LH is not a guarantee that you will ovulate, just a signal your body is trying to ovulate. Ovulation should be confirmed using additional fertility signs, such as BBT.
