Your health and your relationship with your baby at 18 weeks of pregnancy

This is about the time when your baby starts being able to hear sounds from outside of your body, including your voice. This is a great time to start reading, singing, or even just talking to your baby. You can even begin routines now that will carry on when they’re born, as they most likely can remember those routines.

By week 18, you might be feeling more energetic, and it's a great time for gentle, low-impact exercise such as walking and swimming. These movements can keep you feeling active without putting strain on your joints or growing belly. Swimming is especially soothing as it helps alleviate the weight of your bump while giving your entire body a workout. Both activities boost circulation, keep your muscles toned, and can even help with sleep!

Practical Tip: As your body continues to adjust, you may start to feel some discomfort in your back, hips, or legs. This is the perfect time to consider a prenatal massage. Not only can it help relieve aches and pains, but it’s also a great way to relax and pamper yourself. Additionally, it’s a good time to start incorporating pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) into your daily routine. These exercises strengthen the muscles that support your uterus, bladder, and bowels, helping to prevent incontinence and promoting easier recovery after birth. Even just a few minutes a day can make a big difference!
