At 13-14 weeks, your baby is about the size of a lemon.
Your baby is still rapidly growing and developing. Around this time, the eyes move to their final position on the face. Fingernails and toenails have begun to form, while bones and muscles continue to develop, elongating the limbs and making them more proportional to the rest of the body. During this period, those bones and muscles start to respond to physical stimuli, and some women begin to feel fetal movements.
Baby’s vocal cords also start forming at this time, although audible sound isn’t possible yet. While the liver and kidneys were partially functioning before, they have gained more functionality. Namely, the liver starts to produce bile and the kidneys start to produce urine (which leaves the body into the amniotic fluid).
On an ultrasound, genitalia is more distinguishable but may still not be easily identified in some cases (especially depending on your baby’s position). You may also catch your baby sucking its thumb!
