For your baby: At 10 weeks of pregnancy, your baby has reached the size of a strawberry. The baby’s major organs are continuing to develop, and the embryonic tail is gradually disappearing. Facial features are becoming more defined, and tooth buds beneath the gums are developing.
It's also during this week that the external genitalia begins to differentiate, although it may not be visually distinguishable on an ultrasound. The amniotic fluid increases, providing protection and support for the developing fetus.
For yourself: Remember to prepare for your visit with your healthcare provider. Starting at 10 to 12 weeks, they will listen to your baby's heartbeat at every prenatal appointment using a handheld Doppler.
